I’m back for another humpday and I’m back with a post I think will help a lot of people! A lot of my friends will ask me about different products and what the purpose of each of them are. Many want to get more into makeup but don’t really know where to start. You can look up a lot of different videos on Youtube but most of those videos are complicated routines that involve way too many unnecessary steps for everyday. Today, I’m going to break down a little kit that you can create yourself using affordable products and that will help you to get more comfortable with makeup! I’m leaving out unnecessary steps like lashes, eyeshadow primers, and color correctors. I’m breaking it down to the steps that I think will be easy and leave you feeling great.
Here are the steps that are in a basic makeup routine. I know a lot of us don’t wear makeup everyday but this is a great set of products to always have on hand for when you want to go more glam or more natural.
- Setting Powder
- Setting Spray
The steps above are in order of how you would apply them. You do not have to use all of these products but if you do, this would be the order!
Below are my recommendations for each step and they all are drugstore! Keep in mind that I have oily skin so these are what work best for my skin type. If I have a recommendation for dry skin I will leave it down below as well!
L’Oreal Infallible Matte-Lock Primer- $10.97
A primer is crucial in creating a flawless base. There are millions of different primers but it’s important to read labels and pick based off what your skin type is. If you’re oily, you’ll want a mattifying primer. If you’re more dry you’ll want a hydrating primer. I recommend getting this primer in the pro-glow formula if you’re dry! The writing is blue instead of red. On no makeup days I like to wear just this with some mascara and my skin looks nice and smooth!
Wet N’ Wild Photo Focus Foundation- $4.67
This foundation is a NEED. This is a $5 foundation that works better than any foundation I’ve used. This foundation is full coverage and gives a flawless matte finish. If you’re dry I would recommend using the L’Oreal Fit Me in Dewy+Smooth. This is a full coverage foundation that will also give you beautiful coverage but won’t dry you out.
Makeup Revolution Conceal and Define Full Coverage Concealer- $7
I am a hoarder when it comes to concealers. I have tried every one from the drugstore and this concealer is by far the best! It is a dupe for the Tarte Shape Tape and it’s a 1/3 of the price. Concealer is important because it’s going to cover up dark spots, dark circles, acne, and little imperfections. Concealer is one thing I would say I could not live without because on days I want to wear no makeup but I have a couple pimples, this is exactly what I need to cover them up and feel confident.
4. Setting Powder
Coty Airspun Loose Face Powder- $5.97
Setting your face with powder is crucial if you have oily skin. Setting your under eyes is also going to prevent creasing which is important to getting beautiful looking skin. With this powder, a little goes a long way. I recommend taking a setting brush and dipping it in. Once you do this tap a little of the excess off and dust the powder all over the face. If you’re really dry, set the face with a light hand just so you can prevent your other products from grabbing to the tacky parts of your face from your foundation.
***TIP*** Instead of buying eyeshadow primer, use a little concealer on your lids and blend out. Then set the concealer with you’re setting powder to help eyeshadows blend out easily.
Wet N’ Wild Photo Focus Pressed Powder In Shade Cocoa- $4.68
I have many different bronzers from the drugstore but I find that this powder in the shade cocoa is the perfect color for bronzing the face. It’s so buttery and blends out super easy. Bronzing up is going to help bring life to the face.
Milani Baked Blush In Luminoso- $6.97
I don’t think blush is something everyone NEEDS to have in their everyday makeup routine, but if you like blush and think it looks pretty this blush is stunning! The color is flattering on many skin tones and it brings a pretty glow to the face but is not over dramatic. You can take it on the apples of your cheeks and bring it a little higher up on the highpoint of the cheek for a natural highlighty look.
Wet N’ Wild Mega Glow Highlighter In Precious Petals- $4.68
This highlighter is BOMB. You will look like a glowing goddess with this and it’s so inexpensive! A little goes a long way, so you should use a light hand. You can apply this on the high points of your cheeks, the center of your nose, and on your cupids bow. Highlight is not something I use everyday but when I want to go for a glowy look, this is a MUST.
ELF Instant Lift Brow Pencil- $2
This pencil is so easy to use and I can have my eyebrows done in less than a minute! Eyebrows are such an important part of the face and it’s very important to me to always have my eyebrows perfectly shaped. This pencil is a little on the thicker side so if you have really thin eyebrow I recommend using the NYX Micro Brow Pencil instead. Set your brows using any clear brow gel. I personally find that all brow gels do the same thing for me so I don’t feel a need to spend a lot of money.
Morphe Eyeshadow Palette in 35T- $23
I think Morphe Palettes are really great to own because there are so many colors and you can do tons of different looks. Morphe Palettes are inexpensive for the amount of shadows you get and they blend nicely. There are many different palettes, so choose one that you think you’ll get the most use out of. When doing a basic eyeshadow look blend a neutral brown matte color in the crease. Use windshield wiper motion back and forth until it looks even and blended. Once your crease is blended, take a color you think suits you on your finger. Apply it straight the lid. Once you have the color on your lid, go back in with a blending brush and blend the crease again. This will give a nice blended look that has dimension. This is an easy way to do eyeshadow if you’re a beginner or you’re strapped for time. If you’re using a sparkly color like gold and you want it to pop on the lid, apply it to your finger and then spray it with your setting spray. This will give it a very big pop!
L’Oreal Lash Paradise- $8.97
I’m not going to go into too much detail with this product because I talked about it in a previous blog, but basically you need this mascara. Yes, that’s all. Use it and be amazed.
Kimmel London Lasting Finish by Kate Nude Collection Lipstick- $4.97
For everyday I usually wear chapstick and I’m out the door, but if you want a pretty pop to the face I recommend using this Rimmel lipstick. They have so many pretty nudes and you can find the perfect shade for you. They apply evenly and smooth and they give you a “your lips but better” look!
12. Setting Spray
Milani Make It Last Setting Spray- $8.97
This spray smells amazinggggggggg! I find that every time I use this spray I have a good makeup day. This melts all your makeup together and brings life back into your skin. Setting your makeup is a must if you want it to last all day.
